How Do We Sign Up?
There are four steps for your family to join Pack 283.
The first step is to complete the registration for your child (and yourself if becoming an adult volunteer) and pay the annual dues for the upcoming year. This can be done online or via paper application and check payment. We pride ourselves on providing a quality, low-cost program for children and their families. Annual dues include a handbook, all awards and patches, regular Pack and den meeting activities, and a subscription to Boys Life magazine. There are fees for some special events that children choose to attend (e.g., camping). Confidential scholarships are available on request for all or any part of these expenses; just ask the Cubmaster, the Treasurer, or your Den leader. If you have specific questions about girls entering the Pack, please contact Nira Rajan (nira_rajan@yahoo.com).
The second is to identify the Den that your child will be entering. For Lions (Kindergarten age children), Dens are created from the boys and girls joining the pack each spring and fall. For all other ranks, children are normally added to existing Dens. Every effort is made to make sure all children are added to Dens where they are comfortable.
The third step is to identify parent volunteers to help the Dens and Pack function. This is especially important in the Lion Cub Dens where there aren’t Den Leaders from prior years already in place. There are also other opportunities to become involved as a volunteer that doesn’t involve leading a den. Coordinating activities like the Pinewood Derby, joining the Camping Committee, helping to organize our annual awards banquet (the “Blue and Gold” dinner), and helping with Wreath sales are a few of the options available. If you are interested in helping out, please contact our Pack Committee Chair or Cubmaster.
The fourth step is to get a Cub Scout uniform for your child. Class A uniforms are to be worn at all Pack and Den meetings and optionally at campouts (Pack t-shirts [Class B uniforms] are recommended when camping). The cost for the required uniform is around $35 (some families buy additional items). Again, confidential scholarships are available on request. Adult leaders also wear uniforms at Pack and Den activities and are reimbursed by the Pack for the cost of a uniform. A description of what is required for a uniform and patch placement is included in your registration packet.
