Den 3

Hello Webelos Den Families!
We will provide more information on the plans for our Webelos/Arrow of Light years over the summer and in the fall, but here is an initial list of items the boys could/should work on this summer, along with some notes on what they are slated to complete at summer camp:
How do the Webelos/Arrow of Light Cub Scout ranks work in Pack 283?
What Required and Elective Adventures will the boys do at Kiwanis Scout Camp this summer?
At camp, the boys are supposed to work on both required Adventures and electives as follows:

We will provide more information on the plans for our Webelos/Arrow of Light years over the summer and in the fall, but here is an initial list of items the boys could/should work on this summer, along with some notes on what they are slated to complete at summer camp:
How do the Webelos/Arrow of Light Cub Scout ranks work in Pack 283?
- ~18 month program, with a single Handbook (given at Near Wilderness or May Pack meeting)
- Webelos rank from now until late April 2017 (4th grade)
- Arrow of Light rank from late April 2017 through late January 2018, when the boys cross over to Boy Scouts (more than half of 5th grade)
- Webelos – complete 5 required Adventures + 2 elective Adventures (each has multiple parts): Cast Iron Chef, Duty to God and You, First Responder, Stronger, Faster, Higher, Webelos Walkabout, 2 electives
- Arrow of Light – 4 required Adventures + 3 elective Adventures (each has multiple parts) – We’ll get into the details of this in early 2017, but we may get started on some of the electives this year. This’ll be a lot to do in less than a year!
- Memorize the Scout Oath and Scout Law – found on the back cover of Webelos handbook.
- Memorize the Outdoor Code and Leave No Trace for Kids – inside back cover of Webelos handbook, page 522 and more detail on pages 19-21. This is for Requirement 5 of the Required Webelos Walkabout Adventure.
- Complete the entire Duty to God and You Required Adventure, pages 50-57. This entire Adventure is family based and should be done as a family.
- Review the Youth Protection Booklet with your son. It is just inside the front cover of the handbook.
- Complete these activities for these Required Webelos Adventures as homework:
- Cast Iron Chef: Requirements #2, 3 and 5 (see pages 42-49)
- First Responder: Requirement #7 (see page 84)
- Stronger, Faster, Higher: Requirement #3, 6 (see pages 92-97)
- Webelos Walkabout: Requirement #5 (see page 111 and above memorization)
- Do your best to complete at least one elective or more of your choosing. Each boy will need to have 5 electives complete by January 2018 [at least 2 by April 2017 + 3 more by January 2018]. They all don’t need to complete the same ones. There is no limit to the number of electives a Scout can earn. I don’t think we need to wait to do 3 more electives next year if you want to do all 5 of them soon/in the coming year. Many electives fit quite well into family routines. Pick one or more that look good to you. Some electives that caught my eye include: Built It (can get all but one requirement done at Scout Camp), Castaway (most of the boys built a survival shelter at Near Wilderness last month), Fix It (Super practical things everyone should know how to do!), Game Design (fun and creative, on or offline!), Project Family (great if spending time with older relatives in particular), Sportsman (many of our boys do many of these activities already!)
What Required and Elective Adventures will the boys do at Kiwanis Scout Camp this summer?
At camp, the boys are supposed to work on both required Adventures and electives as follows:
- Webelos Required Adventures: Cast Iron Chef, #1, First Responder, #1-5, Stronger, Faster, Higher, #1, 2, 6, Webelos Walkabout, #1, 2, 3, 5
- Elective Adventures: Aquanaut, #1-7, 9, 10 (this will be essentially complete at camp!), Build It, #1-4 (all but one requirement will be complete at camp!), Maestro, #3a and 3e
