Pack 283 & 388 Pinewood Derby 2018
Saturday, March 10th
(OPTIONAL CAR TEST and parent/sibling/Friend races at 6PM ON Friday, March 9th)

  • Start times will be prompt!
  • We would like ALL Scouts to show up at the START of your check in window.  Races will likely start a bit early this year!  Don't miss your race!
  • ​If you do not plan to race, please tell your den leader so we don't wait for you to start your den's race!

Please arrive at least 45 minutes prior to the start of your Scout’s race for inspection, weigh-in, and race preparation support.

  • We will need parent volunteers to make this event run smoothly and assist with various functions throughout the morning on race day (e.g., concessions, computer, check-in, weigh-in, photographer, mechanic, car guard, starter). 
  • There will be a repair shop on race day and we will need volunteers to function as mechanics.  If you can participate in this capacity we ask that you bring your own tools.
  • Track set-up will start on the Friday before the derby at 4:00 PM.  All volunteers are welcome.
  • Optional car testing and Parent/Sibling races will be after the track is set up on Friday evening
  • The scales will be available if your Scout would like to check the weight of his car at our Blue and Gold Ceremony, at our March Pack meeting, and again on Friday when the track is set up.

NortherN Star Council 2018 Pinewood Derby Rules

Overall: All cars must be built for the current Pinewood Derby Racing Season.  NO REPEATS or REPAINTS.  In order to race at the council championship, the youth must have been a Cub Scout at some point since January 1st, 2018, or has bridged to Boy Scouts since September 1st, 2017.  A completed car purchased from a third party is not allowed.  Cars may not be sent to third party facilities for tuning or other performance enhancements.  The Cub Scout should be present and in uniform, if possible.  The race will be a timed event.  The best cumulative time will determine the winner.

GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP AND BEHAVIOR IS EXPECTED. Race Officials may ask anyone not following this rule to leave.

District pinewood derby

The Lake Minnetonka Pinewood Derby will also be held at Wayzata Community Church this year!  The date is set to April 14th.  The top 3 finishers from each den at our pack Pinewood Derby are automatically invited, though all scouts are welcomed to race their cars at the district Pinewood Derby.  More information on the district race is at the link below:
