Pack 283’s annual Near Wilderness camping trip is a great chance for Cub Scouts and their families to enjoy the outdoors together and share a fun scouting experience. Camp overnight (Friday and/or Saturday) in rustic cabins, or just come for the day Saturday. Open to the entire family. Activities will include:
We will need parents and Cub Scouts to help with one meal (prep, serve, set-up, clean-up) over the course of the weekend so the weekend runs smoothly. More details will be provided by the Pack leaders. Thank you! |

Friday, Apr 26: Check-in 6:00 p.m. Please eat dinner before you come or picnic at camp (please bring a cooler if you need it as fridge space will not be available). Evening campfire and cracker barrel at sundown. Lights out at 10:00 PM each night.
Saturday, Apr 27: Breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Flag Raising at 8:15 a.m. with daytime activities 8:30 a.m. Evening program begins at 5:00 with the Pack Graduation, dinner, campfire, skits, and songs.

FACILITIES:
Near Wilderness Settlement is located at Baker Park Reserve in Maple Plain, MN – just 15 minutes west of Plymouth / Wayzata. There are 8 cabins (8-10 per cabin) and room for tents. Central lodge with sink / restrooms / kitchen are on site. Cabin assignments will be provided at check-in.
COST:
Payment includes site usage fees, all meals and activities.
$35 – Friday and/or Saturday Overnight per person
$25 – Saturday Day Trip per person (pays for cost of naturalist-run programming and meals)
$10 – Graduation and Dinner only per person
These costs are per person, and there is a $100 maximum cost per family.

- Register: complete registration using the to the Register button below.
- Payment: make your payment in Paypal using the Payment button below or directly from the Register page.
- Forms: fill out all of parts A and B on the BSA Health Form for every adult and child who is coming to camp.
WHAT TO BRING:
Warm sleeping bag, mess kit, pillow, sunscreen, insect repellent, flashlight, water bottle, folding chairs, change of warm clothes, hat for sun protection, Cub Scout handbook, Cub Scout T-shirt (available for sale during the weekend), and personal items (books, cards, sports equipment, cooler with for personal snack and drink items - no alcohol is allowed).
The Scout motto is "Be Prepared.” This is especially true when it comes to April weather in Minnesota. Don’t forget warm sleeping clothes, jacket, hat and gloves, sturdy rain gear, boots, and an extra pair of shoes. Please leave electronics at home. Adults may want to bring cameras. Scouts may bring pocket knives if carrying a Whittling Chip card (Webelos only).
DO NOT BRING: Pets, alcohol, firearms, fireworks, electronics & tobacco are prohibited.

MEALS AND MESS KITS:

Remember your mess kit and your reusable mug for coffee or cocoa!! Please help us reduce trash by bringing your reusable gear for meals and drinks!
WHO CAN COME:
All Pack 283 Cub Scouts and their families are welcome (Lions through Webelos). Scouts should attend with at least one parent. If a parent cannot come they must find someone willing to be physically responsible for their child at all times and provide a permission slip with emergency contact numbers. (Lions and Tigers must have an adult partner with them – no exceptions). Siblings can participate in all activities if there parents are in attendance directly with their children.
Pack 283 strictly follows the Youth Protection Policy of the Scouts BSA. Under that policy, no child may sleep in a tent with any adult who is not his/her parent or guardian. Each cabin must have at least two adults and will be separated into male / female cabins. Family cabins will be available only if capacity allows. See Pack leaders for more details on this policy.
