Pack 283’s annual Near Wilderness camping trip is a great chance for boys and their families to enjoy the outdoors together and share a fun scouting experience. Camp overnight (Friday or Saturday) in rustic cabins, or just come for the day Saturday. Open to the entire family. Activities will include:

SCHEDULE:

Friday, Apr 22: Check-in 5:45 p.m. Eat before you come, prepare your own dinner at your campsite, or use the kitchen in the lodge. Evening campfire and cracker barrel at sundown. Lights out at 10:00 PM each night.
Saturday, Apr 23: Pancake Breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Flag Raising at 8:10 a.m. with daytime activities 8:30 a.m. Evening program begins at 5:00 with the Pack Graduation, dinner, campfire, skits, and songs.
Sunday, Apr 24: Breakfast. Check-out 10:00 AM

FACILITIES:
Near Wilderness Settlement is located at Baker Park Reserve in Maple Plain, MN – just 15 minutes west of Plymouth / Wayzata. There are 8 cabins (8-10 per cabin) and room for tents. Central lodge with sink / restrooms / kitchen are on site. Cabin will be assigned by Den, with male/female staying in separate cabins.
COST, SIGN-UP AND FORMS:
Payment includes site usage fees, all meals and activities.
$30 – Friday or Saturday Overnight (Select one night)
$20 – Saturday Day Trip (pays for cost of naturalist-run programming and meals)
$10 – Graduation and Dinner only

WHAT TO BRING:
Warm sleeping bag, mess kit, pillow, sunscreen, insect repellent, flashlight, water bottle, folding chairs, change of warm clothes, hat for sun protection, Cub Scout handbook, Cub Scout T-shirt (available for sale during the weekend), and personal items (books, cards, sports equipment, cooler with any personal drink, snack food items).
The Scout motto is "Be Prepared.” This is especially true when it comes to April weather in Minnesota. Don’t forget warm sleeping clothes, jacket, hat and gloves, sturdy rain gear, boots, and an extra pair of shoes. Please leave electronics at home. Adults may want to bring cameras. Scouts may bring pocket knives if carrying a Whittling Chip card (Bears only).
Everyone must have a completed health form. If you did not attend Polar Cubs, please complete a health form prior to check-in. Please email pack283@gmail.com if you have questions on whether your health forms are up to date. They must be updated annually.

WHO CAN COME:
All Pack 283 Cub Scouts and their families are welcome (Lions through Webelos). Scouts should attend with at least one parent. If a parent cannot come they must find someone willing to be physically responsible for their son at all times and provide a permission slip with emergency contact numbers. (Lions and Tigers must have an adult partner with them – no exceptions). Siblings can participate in all activities.
Pack 283 strictly follows the Youth Protection Policy of the Boy Scouts of America. Under that policy, no child may sleep in a tent with any adult who is not his/her parent or guardian. Each cabin must have two adults and will be separated into male / female cabins. Family cabins will be available only if capacity allows. See pack leaders for more details on this policy.
