Notes from Pack Committee Meeting, November 15, 2005
Near Wilderness Wrap-up Successful weekend. Good feedback on naturalist programs. Numbers were down from previous years probably due to deer opener. Suggestions for more activity midday Saturday. Maybe try a movie night Saturday night. Next Near Wilderness will be Spring, 2007. Need to tell Three Rivers Park District what date to hold.
Wreath Sale Pickup Pack email going out as reminder. Ken Satre has dens lined up to help out.
Sleep Out any Cub Scout who participates in the Sleep Out can get a Sleep Out patch. Need to go to website and tell what they did. Dont need to go through den leader. Can be any related event kickoff, a sleep out, raising money, etc.
December Pack Meeting Holiday theme. Scouts to bring unwrapped toy and food item. Former Webelos will receive Summit Achievement Award. Will have short reception for them in another room and 2nd year Webelos and/or parents can attend reception if they have questions about Boy Scouts. Boys, parents and Scoutmasters from 4 troops (283, 481, 537, 570) are expected to attend. Wreath Sale Awards. Need someone to lead some holiday songs. Awards and raffles.
January Pack Meeting Webelos crossover. 2nd year Webelos leaders in charge of crossover ceremony. Need to arrange rehearsal and arrows. Recognition of outgoing leaders. Troop 283 will do Arrow of Light ceremony. A suggestion was made to explain these ceremonies to younger scouts not clear to them what is happening. Also to add something fun to end of meeting after Webelos leave the room. Regular awards and raffles. Need MC.
Cubmaster Search We have no Cubmaster after December (Tim Kasemodel will be a Webelos parent during January crossover Pack meeting). Connie Fagre looking for suggestions of people to talk to. Trying to put together a Cubmaster committee so Cubmaster duties can be shared. Looking to have one person from three different ranks for succession purposes. Cubmaster job description distributed (link)
Website Webmasters put together schedule for site updates and for Newsletters to coincide with Pack meetings and Pack events. Leaders need to get info to Mark Porth for newsletter about 2 weeks before each Pack meeting. Event coordinators will have deadlines for getting website info updated for their event. Den leaders encouraged to set up their den events on website. Contact Mark to do this. New printable calendar can be tailored to include just the type of events you want (Pack, den, etc).
Rum River Coordinator Need someone to handle this event (April 21-23).
T-shirts Discussed ordering new t-shirts we are out of most sizes of current shirt. Decided to sell new shirts, rather than give away will keep price low. Most felt keeping same color would be helpful (for identifying kids in our Pack) but could change design. Maybe use the new logo from the website, keep old one, or have a design contest in the Pack. Goal is to have new t-shirts by Rum River. Need someone to coordinate this.
Blue and Gold (2/13) Theme will be Native Americans. Dens will do centerpieces this year. Jerry Asplund in charge.
Pinewood Derby (3/18) Several questions raised. Will wait to discuss with Rob Buss.
Gleason Lake Carnival (3/17) Harley Hanson volunteered to chair this event will do booth at carnival and cleanup.
Summer Camps Packets now available at Scout office. Lots of new camps due to council merger. Day Camp will now be at Rum River, plus new Webelos Day camp to earn Activity pins. Still have Fun with Son. New overnight camps for Wolves and Bears. Webelos still go to Stearns for Webelos camp, but there are other Webelos options at other old Indian Head Council camps. Registrations start Jan 4. Will be working to create links on website.
Pack Committee Secretary Julie Zinniel volunteered to be Pack Committee Secretary and take minutes.
Next Meeting: Tuesday, December 12, 7pm, WCC Geo Lab.
