Summer 2009 Northern Star Council Camps
Pack 283 is going to Cub Scout Resident Camp this summer!

A summer council camp is one of the highlights of Cub Scouting - don't let your son miss out. This year Pack 283 scouts are encouraged to join their friends at either Camp Akela,  July 24th - 26th or Camp Heritage July 10th - 12th. Talk to your den and go to one of these camps together. Spaces are limited so register early.

Each camp is $90.00 per person. Confidential full or partial scholarships are available by contacting Treasurer@pack283.net  or your den leader.

Cub Resident Camp

For Tigers, Wolves, Bears and 1st Year Webelos (next year's rank):

A weekend program which offers the opportunity for Cub Scouts and their accompanying adult to spend quality time together working on advancements, enjoying recreational activities and learning the fundamentals of camping in the outdoors. Programs are similar at both camps. You'll camp with your Pack then participate in age appropriate activities by rank, which may include BB guns, archery, nature, crafts, outdoor skills, swimming, boating, games, pony rides and much more during the session.  Food service is provided for these programs at all camps. A 1:1 Youth/Adult ratio is strongly recommended, and 2:1 is required and a 1:1 ratio is required for all Cub Scout Tigers (current Tigers in Dens 1, 10 and 11 will attend camp as Wolves this summer).

What are the differences in the two camps?

Each offers similar programs for Cub Scouts entering 1st through 4th grade next year.

- Camp Akela is located on the Phillippo Scout Reservation near Cannon Falls, about 75 minutes away. Campers sleep in two person canvas, platform tents with cots, eat in a dining hall, and swim in a heated pool.

-Camp Heritage is located at the Sterns Scout Camp near Annandale, about 45 minutes from Wayzata.  Campers sleep in regular two person tents, will have prepared meals brought to their site and use a lakefront for swimming.

Neither date works for my family.  Can my son still go to camp?

-Yes.  Sign up on your own or with a den mate at any of the Cub Resident Camps with open spots.  See www.goscouting.org for availabilities.

My son wants to go but his parents can't. Can he still sign up?

-Yes.  While a 1:1 ratio is highly recommended, a 2:1 is permitted if your son is comfortable being away from you and is mature enough to handle himself responsibly. You should make arrangements with your den leader or another adult who is going and who would be willing to supervise your son as well as his/her own.

How do I sign up? Sign up online below, or with a check at a Pack meeting or Pinewood Derby.  Space is limited and will be filled first come, first served.
