Rum River campout
April 21 - 23 2006

Pack 283 begins the camping season with our weekend at the beautiful Rum River Boy Scout Camp near Anoka. Cub Scouts and a parent camp in tents Friday and/or Saturday nights. Or, you can come just for the day on Saturday. The boys participate in outdoor activities all day Saturday including archery, and BB guns, a nature hike, an obstacle course, plus other new fun being planned for this year. The Saturday evening campfire is a highlight with skits, songs and s’mores.

Schedule:
Friday: Friday night campers arrive anytime after 6:00 pm to set up tents – eat before you come or make your own dinner in your campsite. Saturday 9:30am – Morning activities begin followed by lunch, afternoon activities, dinner and campfire. Saturday campers can set up tents anytime during the day. Sunday: Depart by 10:30 am.

Facilities:
We will be headquartered at Thurston Lodge which is open at all times. It is heated and has a kitchen and bathroom. Scouts pick their own campsites near. The Rum River camp has 160 rolling acres of woodlands, fields and marsh nearby.

What to bring:
Tent, sleeping bags and sleeping pads, flashlights, change of warm clothes, and personal items. Keep your scout comfortable by dressing in layers and being prepared for unpredictable April weather – sturdy rain gear, hat for sun protection and extra pair of shoes. Water bottles, pocketknives (boys mush have their Whittlin Chip card with them) sunscreen recommenced. (Tent may be rented from the campmaster: 763-323-4755). Electronics strongly discouraged.

Who Can Come:
Pack 283 Cub Scouts and at least one parent. No siblings please. If a parent cannot come they must find someone willing to be physically responsible for their son at all times and provide a permission slip. Important Reminder: Under the BSA’s Youth Protection Rules, a boy may not sleep in a tent with an adult who is not his parent. If Cub Scouts want to sleep together, bring an extra tent for them.

Cost and Signups:
The cost is $10 per person for all or part of the weekend. Signups will begin in April – online and at the April Pack meeting
